The Vietnamese men’s regu sepak takraw team advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 Asian Games on Sept. 27 after a 2-0 victory over Myanmar (15-5, 15-13).
Vietnam Men’s Sepak Takraw Team Secures Semifinal Berth
The Vietnamese men’s regu team, consisting of Nguyen Van Nhan, Ngo Thanh Long, and Luong Cong Minh, faced a volatile day of competition on Sept. 27. The team opened their group stage play with a 0-2 defeat against Malaysia, falling 9-15 and 15-17.
Vietnam recovered in a high-stakes second match against Myanmar. The trio secured a straight-sets win, 15-5 and 15-13, to guarantee their spot in the semifinals. While the men’s team progressed, the women’s doubles pairing of Nguyen Thi Thu Trang and Nguyen Thi Khanh Ly was eliminated after a 1-2 loss to Laos, with set scores of 15-12, 10-15, and 9-15.
Mixed Results for Vietnamese Archery and Shooting
Vietnam’s archery contingent recorded several advancements on Sept. 27. In the recurve mixed doubles, Dang Cong Duc and Le Thuy Phuong Nhi defeated Iran 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals. Simultaneously, Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu and Loc Thi Dao advanced to the top eight in the compound mixed doubles after beating Bhutan 158-150.
The team events ended in quarterfinals exits. The women’s compound team, featuring Le Thuy Phuong Nhi, Le Pham Ngoc Anh, and Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao, lost a close match to China 223-226. The men’s recurve team also exited the competition following a loss to Taiwan (China).
In sport shooting, Trinh Thu Vinh placed third temporarily in the women’s 25-meter pistol event after the slow-fire rounds. Vinh recorded scores of 95, 99, and 97 for a total of 291 points. Teammates Nguyen Thuy Trang and Nguyen Thuy Dung trailed in 28th and 39th place with 283 and 279 points, respectively. The shooters moved into the 30-shot rapid-fire round on the morning of Sept. 28 to determine the eight finalists.
Beach Volleyball Win and Athletics Finish
Nguyen Lam Toi and Nguyen Van Viet earned a victory in Group C of the beach volleyball competition, defeating Mongolia 2-0 with identical set scores of 21-13. In contrast, the men’s indoor volleyball team opened Group C with a 0-3 loss to India.
In athletics, Le Thi Cam Tu finished seventh out of eight athletes in the women’s 200-meter final, clocking a time of 23.53 seconds.
Vietnam’s Standing in the 2026 Asian Games Medal Table
As of the close of competition on Sept. 27, Vietnam holds 18 medals in total: one gold, one silver, and 16 bronze. This tally places the delegation in 21st place in the overall standings.

Eliminations in Badminton and Kurash
Vietnam faced several exits in other disciplines. In badminton, the men’s doubles pair of Nguyen Dinh Hoang and Tran Dinh Manh were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Indonesia (21-6, 21-10). In kurash, Pham Nguyen Hong Mo lost 0-5 to Uzbekistan’s Kodirova Fotima in the under-57kg category round of 32, while Nguyen Thi Huong lost 0-3.
The Vietnamese delegation continues competition on Sept. 28 and 29, with remaining events in shooting, sepak takraw, archery, and kurash, where Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Duong Thanh Thanh are scheduled to compete.
