Bronze Medal Match Comes Down to Final Arrow Against Taiwan

The lineup of Choi Yong-hee, Kim Jong-ho, and Choi Eun-gyu entered the bronze medal playoff looking to salvage a medal after dropping their semifinal matchup earlier in the day. South Korea struggled to find footing early in the contest against the Taiwanese team, falling behind 59–58 in the first end and dropping the second end 57–59 to face a three-point cumulative deficit.

South Korea mounted a late surge in the third end by landing five out of six arrows in the 10-ring, cutting into the Taiwanese lead as their opponents managed 57 points. In the fourth and final end, the South Korean squad recorded five 10s and a 9, but Taiwan matched the exact scoreline to preserve a one-point victory and claim the bronze medal.

Semifinal Defeat Sets Up Tough Finish

The fourth-place finish followed a difficult semifinal meeting with India earlier on March 30. South Korea fell 236–229 in that encounter, pushing the team out of gold-medal contention and forcing them into the third-place playoff.

Entering the competition, the South Korean archery delegation held expectations of sweeping the gold medals across the compound events. The fourth-place finish for the men’s team concluded a mixed campaign in the compound discipline at the Okazaki venue, where South Korea previously earned a bronze medal in the women’s team event and a silver medal in the mixed team competition.

Compound Archery Squad Roster

The men’s compound team featured experienced competitors from prominent domestic squads. Choi Yong-hee and Kim Jong-ho both represent Hyundai Steel, while Choi Eun-gyu competes for the Ulsan Nam District Office.

With the conclusion of the men’s team bracket, South Korea finished the compound program’s medal events with one silver and one bronze across the three categories.
