Victoriaville Cactus Hold Series Edge Over Acton Vale Castors
The Ligue de baseball majeur du Québec (LBMQ) remains the province’s primary senior loop still playing competitive games, anchored by its championship final. For the fourth year, the league title series features a familiar matchup between the Cactus de Victoriaville and the Castors d’Acton Vale.
Victoriaville opened the series with three consecutive victories, starting with a road win at the Castors’ home park, followed by a home victory on Saturday afternoon, and a third straight win to establish a 3-0 series lead. Game 4 of the series is scheduled for Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. local time at Stade Rémi-Deshaies in Victoriaville, where Acton Vale faces elimination.
Offensively and defensively, the Cactus have leaned heavily on Josué Peley. The former Blue Jays interpreter leads the playoffs in home runs and saves, with four in each category. The defeat left the Diamants’ clubhouse subdued after dropping the league’s final series for the second year. Repentigny’s championship run concludes a grueling summer campaign that tested the depth of both pitching staffs through seven elimination contests.
Ottawa Titans Defend Regional Professional Pride
Professional baseball in the region also reached its conclusion as the Ottawa Titans captured the Frontier League championship. After sweeping through the first two rounds of the postseason without a loss, Ottawa dropped the opening game of the championship series before roaring back to win three straight games and secure the title, succeeding the Québec Capitales.
Pitcher Ky Hampton earned playoff Most Valuable Player honors following dominant performances on the mound. Quebec baseball fans share a direct connection to Hampton, as the Australian hurler was key for the Brock de Drummondville during the 2025 season.
New Collegiate Program and Elite Prospects Expand Development
At the developmental level, the Cégep de Thetford Filons officially debuted their new baseball program in front of home supporters at Stade Desjardins. The inaugural roster comprises 22 players gathered from across Quebec. Throughout their first competitive season, the Filons will face competition spanning Quebec, Ontario, and the United States.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old left-handed pitching prospect Xavier Villeneuve of Gatineau is drawing strong interest. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 209 pounds, the ABC product is working under the guidance of Karl Gélinas. Baseball development across Quebec received additional backing as the City of Saguenay deployed $264,000 to modernize Parc Victor-Guimond in Chicoutimi.
