Nha Trang University Sports Hub: Major Events and Student Festival

Nha Trang University in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, hosted its inaugural student sports festival from September 25 to October 4, bringing together more than 1,000 student-athletes for a wide-ranging multi-sport competition. The large-scale event featured participants from three specialized schools and four faculties competing across six distinct disciplines, reinforcing the institution’s position as a prominent regional hub for athletic development and competitive student programming.

Campus Facilities Draw Regional and National Tournaments

The recent festival highlighted the extensive athletic infrastructure maintained by Nha Trang University. The campus features a multi-purpose sports hall designed to accommodate volleyball, badminton, futsal, and basketball, alongside a dedicated artificial grass football field. These facilities have frequently attracted sports federations, government bodies, and provincial organizers looking to stage high-profile competitions.

Over recent years, the university has hosted several notable national and international tournaments. In March, the campus welcomed the 2nd International Youth and Student Football Tournament—the THACO Cup—which brought together six student teams representing universities from across Vietnam and Southeast Asia. Other major competitions held at the venue include the HDBank National Futsal Championship, the National 7-a-side Football Championship, the Vietnam Professional Basketball League, the National Student Football Championship, and the 4th Vietnam Youth and Student Football Championship.

Beyond student-focused events, the institution regularly collaborates on provincial competitions, such as the International Veterans Football Tournament, regional age-group football festivals for youth aged 9 to 13, and official taekwondo and karatedo championships for Khanh Hoa Province.

Athletic Competition and Talent Identification at the 2026-2027 Festival

The inaugural student sports festival for the 2026-2027 academic year saw athletes contest six sports: 11-a-side men’s football, 5-a-side women’s football, indoor volleyball for both men and women, badminton, swimming, and taekwondo. Organization officials stated that the primary objective beyond general fitness is talent identification. Following the conclusion of the event, university sports coordinators plan to evaluate performances and select standout athletes to form representative squads for upcoming provincial, regional, and national tournaments.

“I am very happy to have been able to participate in this competition,” said Nguyen Dinh Minh Khang, a first-year law student in class 67 at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. “This is truly a valuable platform that offers students the chance to compete, connect with each other, and build a strong bond.”

Institutional Philosophy on Physical Education and Student Development

University leadership emphasizes that physical education and organized athletics form a core component of overall student development. Dr. Tran Doan Hung, vice-rector of Nha Trang University, noted that sport plays a vital role in improving student health, fostering mental resilience, establishing discipline, and strengthening community cohesion across the student body.

According to the administration, cultivating a vibrant sports culture serves as a practical method to deliver a comprehensive educational environment. The strategy seeks to ensure that students graduate not only with professional academic knowledge but also with physical endurance, personal adaptability, and a demonstrated sense of civic responsibility.

Nguyen Anh Tu, deputy director of the university’s sports center, added that exposure to high-level competition through provincial, national, and international tournaments provides students with direct motivation to excel, pushing the institution to continually expand and refine its internal athletic programs.
