Competing in a three-team group alongside Ghana and Senegal, the Mauritian squad advanced to the knockout rounds following a fluctuating preliminary schedule. After claiming a walkover victory when Senegal did not show up for their scheduled fixture, Mauritius stumbled against Ghana in the morning session before rebounding strongly in the afternoon to defeat Uganda, sealing their qualification for the tournament’s final four.
Group C Campaign and Knockout Path
The Mauritian youth delegation faced an intense schedule in Egypt as they competed in the preliminary stages of the continental championship. Following their walkover against Senegal, the team faced a tough test against Ghana, dropping the morning tie before regrouping to overcome Uganda later that same day. That afternoon victory proved decisive, lifting Mauritius into the semi-finals where a tough showdown against South Africa awaited them. Meanwhile, Ghana advanced to face host nation Egypt in the opposing semi-final bracket.
The Mauritian roster in Egypt features Nyanesh Changea, Jonathan Ng Wing Lit, and Pranav Bhaugeerothee representing the men’s squad, alongside Tiya Bhurtun, Elsa How Hong, and Chiara How Hong on the women’s side. Once the African U19 Championships conclude, the core of the Mauritian contingent will remain in Egypt to compete in the upcoming Junior World Championships, scheduled to run from October 5 to October 17. The only exceptions within the traveling party are the How Hong sisters, who will return to China following the conclusion of the African fixtures.

While the junior team fights for continental medals in Egypt, Mauritius badminton has also enjoyed success on the senior masters circuit. The Mauritian veterans team captured an impressive haul of eight medals—comprising two gold, two silver, and four bronze—at the Cape Town Senior International 2026 in South Africa, which wrapped up over the weekend.
Soo Sing Stellio Chung Teean Chiong led the medal charge by claiming gold in the 55–60 men’s singles. He teamed up with Teea Chung to secure a second gold medal in the 55–70 men’s doubles category. Aneerood Jugessur added a silver in the 55–60 men’s singles, and partnered with Hurrymun Swatuntratanand to secure another silver in the 55–70 men’s doubles.
The bronze medal count featured Pamela Gladys Mootien and Monique Roodt in the 45–65 women’s doubles, Pamela Gladys Mootien in the 65 women’s singles, Hurrymun Swatuntratanand in the 55–60 women’s singles, and the mixed pair of Pragassen Mootien and Pamela Gladys Mootien in the 65–70 mixed doubles.
