Mexican singer Majo Aguilar and American artist MXKA will perform the national anthems of Mexico and the United States ahead of the National Football League regular-season game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Minnesota Vikings at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on November 22, according to an announcement made by the NFL.
Anthem Performers Set for Estadio Azteca Showdown
The upcoming international fixture brings together two prominent musical acts to open proceedings at one of Latin America’s most historic sports venues. Majo Aguilar, a 32-year-old singer-songwriter, will take the field to deliver the Mexican national anthem. Aguilar has earned three Latin Grammy nominations for Best Ranchera/Mariachi Album and one nomination for Best Regional Mexican Song, establishing herself as a leading voice in the new generation of regional music with more than 533 million global streams.
“I feel very happy to be able to perform the National Anthem of Mexico,” Aguilar said in a statement released by the league. “Mexico is a beautiful country with a very rich culture. Thank you to the NFL for inviting me to be part of such a special moment and allowing me to represent my country. It fills me with pride to be Mexican.”
Representing the United States, Oakland native MXKA will perform the U.S. national anthem. The singer-songwriter is known for blending traditional Mexican sounds with contemporary R&B, drawing on her diverse cultural background.
“Singing the national anthem of the United States in Mexico City, with the 49ers on the field, is a moment that connects many parts of my history,” MXKA stated. “I was born in Oakland, but my mom is from Mexico City, and as a blaxicana artist, I am proud to bring my African American and Mexican roots to such an important stage. I am deeply grateful to the NFL for trusting me with this moment, and I am eager to share it with fans from Mexico, the Bay Area, and everywhere.”
Halftime Entertainment and Game Context
The musical lineup at the Estadio Azteca extends beyond the pre-game ceremonies. The rock band The Warning was previously announced by the league on August 31 as the headline act for the halftime show during the matchup between San Francisco and Minnesota.
The November 22 contest marks another official regular-season game hosted at the iconic Mexico City venue, continuing the league’s international series expansion outside the United States. Teams competing in the fixture continue their regular-season schedules while preparing for the international trip.
