The campaign was anchored by Rahmat Erwin Abdullah, who delivered the nation’s sole gold medal in the men’s 75 kg category.
Rahmat Erwin Abdullah Claims Gold in Men’s 75 kg
Competing in the men’s 75 kg division, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah lifted a combined total of 366 kg to capture the gold medal for Indonesia. The lifter from East Java fended off a challenge from Thailand’s Weeraphon Wichuma, who took the silver medal with a total lift of 365 kg—just one kilogram behind the champion. North Korea’s Ri Chong-song secured the bronze medal with a total of 357 kg.
Luluk Diana Tri Wijayana Secures Bronze in Women’s 49 kg
In the women’s 49 kg class, Luluk Diana Tri Wijayana contributed Indonesia’s second medal of the competition, securing a bronze with a total lift of 191 kg. North Korea’s Ri Song-gum dominated the division to take the gold medal with a total lift of 215 kg, while India’s Mirabai Chanu claimed the silver medal by posting a 198 kg total.
Regional Standing Outperformed Competitors
Indonesia’s results placed the contingent fourth overall in the weightlifting discipline. That performance outpaced Thailand, which finished seventh in the sport’s standings with two silver and two bronze medals. The Philippines and Vietnam both finished further down the table in 15th place, each collecting a single bronze medal.
North Korea Dominates Discipline as China and Iran Follow
North Korea topped the final weightlifting medal table by capturing seven of the 16 gold medals on offer, alongside two silver and one bronze. Their success came from three titles in the men’s events—via Pak Myong-jin in the 65 kg class, Ri Won-ju in the 70 kg class, and Ro Kwang-ryol in the 85 kg class—and four in the women’s events through Ri Song-gum (49 kg), Kang Hyon-gyong (53 kg), Oh Kwang-ok (57 kg), and Song Kuk-hyang (69 kg).
China finished second with five gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. Four of China’s golds came from women’s lifters: Yang Liuyue (61 kg), He Renxiu (77 kg), Wu Yan (86 kg), and Lu Wenwen (+86 kg), with Yang Yang adding a men’s title at 60 kg. Iran took third place with two gold medals, courtesy of Ali Alipour in the 95 kg class and Ali Davoudi in the +110 kg division, supplemented by two bronze medals. Out of all competing delegations, only five nations managed to secure a weightlifting gold medal at the 2026 Games: North Korea (7), China (5), Iran (2), Indonesia (1), and Uzbekistan (1).
