Anthony Gordon scored the opening goal and continued to show his growing importance for England during a cagey match against the Czech Republic, according to player ratings published by BBC Sport.
England secured a clean sheet against a 10-man Czech Republic side that defended very deep, labouring at times to break down the opposition before finding the breakthrough. Manager Thomas Tuchel watched as his squad managed a tight contest, with several players stepping up in key positions.
Anthony Gordon delivered a standout display, earning an 8 rating from BBC Sport for being a constant threat in behind. He supplied a dangerous cross in the first half that deserved a goal before firing in the opener.
Captain Harry Kane recorded a quieter night by dropping deep to search for the ball, yet the England forward still managed to get on the scoresheet with a good finish inside the area during the second half, earning a 7 rating. Morgan Rogers hit the post twice and played Bukayo Saka through early on, though a deeply entrenched Czech defence limited his room.
Elliot Anderson dominated the centre of the pitch, keeping possession moving and shutting down the few counter-attacking opportunities the Czech Republic managed. Lewis Hall combined effectively with Anthony Gordon on the left flank, serving as a constant attacking outlet and nearly scoring in the second half.
Trent Alexander-Arnold started his first England game in nearly two years, offering a great delivery for the opening goal while having minimal defensive work to do. Marc Guehi provided reliable defensive cover with important blocks.
Trevoh Chalobah endured a difficult opening period, losing possession and challenges to frustrate Tuchel, but the centre-back ultimately settled down to preserve the clean sheet. Myles Lewis-Skelly started strongly in build-up play but received a yellow card for a mistimed tackle before being substituted at half-time.
Eberechi Eze replaced Lewis-Skelly at the break and injected fresh energy into the midfield. Later in the second half, Jude Bellingham took over the captain’s armband from Kane, Alex Scott made his international debut, and Rio Ngumoha immediately looked to drive forward upon his introduction.
