Gold Medal Performances in Daugavpils

Host competitors delivered several standout performances on home platforms, capturing five individual titles. Mihails Ostrovskis secured the gold medal in the under-40 kg weight category. In the under-75 kg division, Ņikita Daškevičs took first place. The under-85 kg class saw two Daugavpils athletes top the podium, with Daniils Severins and Maksims Vasiļonoks both earning gold. Meanwhile, Vitālina Kušnere claimed first place in the U18 girls’ age group.

Silver and Bronze Podiums for Host Lifters

The sports school accumulated a substantial collection of silver medals. Roberts Petkuns placed second in the under-55 kg category, followed by Jaroslavs Daņilovs in the under-65 kg division, and Ņikita Konovalovs in the under-70 kg class. In the under-75 kg category, Francis Griškjans and Daniils Ivanovskis both earned silver. Matvejs Panovskis secured second place in the under-85 kg division, Artjoms Suhanovs took silver in the under-95 kg class, and Ņikita Platkovs alongside Ņikita Jakovļevs rounded out the heavyweight successes in the over-95 kg division.

Additional silver medals went to Vanesa Skrindževska in the 2017-born and younger girls’ division, Ksenija Daņilova in the U13 age group, and Karolīna Fjodorova in the U18 category. Bronze finishes were awarded to Marks Caune in the under-45 kg class, Vladimirs Grušenko in the under-51 kg division, Aleksejs Kiseļovs and Maksims Jefimovs in the under-75 kg category, Andrejs Tajevskis in the under-85 kg division, and Maksims Ivanovs in the under-95 kg class.

Team Standings and Individual Trophies

In the overall team standings, the Daugavpils squad finished second with 1173 points. Ludza claimed the team title with 1219 points, while the Balvi team placed third with 810 points.

Individual standout awards were also distributed following the competition. Maksims Vasiļonoks of Daugavpils Sports School was recognized as the strongest athlete in the U18 age group. In the girls’ competition, Vitālina Kušnere earned second place for her strength performance, while Loreta Cilkure from Balvi received the trophy as the strongest female competitor. In the U14 age category, Ingus Ločmelis of Balvi collected the top athlete award.

Preparation for the National Youth Championships

Coaching staff and organizers highlighted the tournament as a vital preparatory milestone. The open championship provided young lifters with an opportunity to test their training progress and physical readiness ahead of the Latvian Youth Weightlifting Championship, scheduled to take place in Daugavpils on October 3 and 4. Daugavpils Sports School expressed gratitude to all participating athletes, coaches, referees, and event organizers for their contributions.
