Da Nang schools boost student athletic development through sports

Schools are ramping up student athletic development through structured physical education plans, intramural sports tournaments, and nationwide fitness campaigns designed to boost both physical health and academic engagement.

Tran Dai Nghia Middle School Expands Elective Sport Offerings

At Tran Dai Nghia Middle School in the Ngu Hanh Son district, administrators implemented a comprehensive physical education framework at the start of the school term. Beyond mandatory drills mandated by the Ministry of Education and Training, the school introduced elective options in football, basketball, and badminton to meet student demand.

Training sessions utilize the campus’s multi-purpose sports hall and outdoor football pitch. During football instruction, students practice footwork and tactical drills under faculty guidance. Tran Trung Son, an eighth-grade student in class 8/2, noted that the physical education curriculum directly aids student athletic progression. “The lessons help me and my classmates improve our skills and physical condition,” Son said, highlighting how specialized coaching prepares students for competitive youth sports fixtures.

Truong Cong Tuan, head of the physical education department at Tran Dai Nghia Middle School, stated that the institution remains dedicated to broadening sports participation throughout the academic year, focusing on inclusive training environments that cultivate genuine enthusiasm for athletics.

Nui Thanh High School Reaches Registration Milestones in National S-Race

In Nui Thanh commune, Nui Thanh High School has paired traditional coursework in basketball, volleyball, and American football with active extracurricular programming. Physical education instructor Nguyen Thi Tuong Vi pointed to student engagement during daily sessions as a primary driver for overall school performance, noting that consistent physical conditioning directly correlates with focus inside the classroom.

Extracurricular student clubs anchor the campus athletic culture. The school running club, established a year ago, holds regular afternoon training sessions and internal competitions. Building on that momentum, the school mobilized participation in the S-Race, a nationwide student sports competition created to foster physical resilience and health awareness. Nui Thanh High School registered over 1,000 participants immediately following the campaign’s launch, making it the first institution in Da Nang to reach that milestone.

To sustain competitive opportunities, principal Nguyen Tan Trieu confirmed that the school’s 2026–2027 calendar features an extensive slate of tournaments spanning football, volleyball, basketball, cross-country running, table tennis, badminton, and chess. Trieu emphasized that these annual events serve to reinforce student discipline and collective team cohesion.

Pham Phu Thu Middle School Develops Competitive Sport Culture

Intramural competition forms a core component of athletic strategy at Pham Phu Thu Middle School in the Hoa Khanh district. The campus athletic schedule features structured tournaments in cross-country running, track and field, badminton, and table tennis.

Le Van Bang, a physical education instructor at the school, observed that these competitive fixtures generate strong student enthusiasm and drive high-intensity training habits. School officials view these localized tournaments as a foundational step toward elevating athletic standards and solidifying a long-term sports culture across the student body.
