The BV Hungen youth badminton team made club history at the Hessian Youth Championships in Dillenburg, fielding seven players in the knockout draws—the highest total participation the club has ever recorded at the regional tournament. Janos Exler captured a bronze medal in the Under-19 mixed doubles competition alongside Felicitas Schöll of BV Linden and Hoppers Gießen.
Record-Setting Turnout in Dillenburg
Joining Exler in the tournament fields were Anna Shpylko, Anastasia Shpylko, Marven Jung, Benedikt Busch, Jano Lehmann, and Nevio Maikranz, establishing a new milestone for the Hungener club’s depth at the youth level.
In the singles categories, the Hungener contingent delivered steady knockout-round performances. Anastasia Shpylko finished ninth through eleventh in the Under-13 girls’ singles, while Anna Shpylko placed ninth through sixteenth in the Under-15 girls’ singles. In the boys’ events, Jano Lehmann secured a ninth-through-sixteenth finish in Under-15 singles, and Janos Exler advanced to finish fifth through eighth in Under-19 singles.
Doubles Success and Mixed Highlights
The doubles draws yielded several notable placements across age groups. In the Under-17 boys’ doubles, Nevio Maikranz and Benedikt Busch finished ninth through fourteenth. In the Under-19 boys’ doubles, Janos Exler teamed with Marven Jung to finish fifth through eighth.
Mixed doubles play brought additional top-tier results. Anastasia Shpylko partnered with Johann Becker to finish fifth through eighth in the Under-13 division, while Anna Shpylko and Jano Lehmann placed ninth and tenth in Under-15 mixed play.
The standout performance for the delegation arrived in the Under-19 mixed doubles, where Janos Exler and Felicitas Schöll delivered what tournament observers noted as the highlight of the day. Playing before a large crowd at the venue, the Wetzlar district pairing relied on aggressive attacking badminton to battle through the draw and claim third place, drawing warm applause from spectators during the medal ceremony.
Simultaneous Success at the German Ranking List in Hamburg
While the regional championships unfolded in Dillenburg, three BV Hungen athletes traveled north to compete in the seventh German Ranking List tournament of 2026 in Hamburg. Finn Beyer and Mia Krüger secured entry into the Under-11 singles draws, while Finn Beyer, Ole Krüger, and Mia Krüger all gained selection for the elite doubles fields.
Competition began Saturday with group stages. Seven-year-old Mia Krüger, competing against players two years her senior, claimed a surprising victory in her round-robin matches to finish third in her group, ending with a 13-18 classification. Finn Beyer swept his group before advancing to the semifinals, where he fell to Theo Stegemann. Because the tournament did not play off for third place, Beyer shared the third-place podium finish with Alfred Yang Tschirner, marking his third time reaching the podium in the U11 boys’ singles.
Sunday’s doubles events saw all three Hungener competitors paired with new partners. Finn Beyer and Leo Kampczyk advanced to the quarterfinals to finish fifth through eighth. Ole Krüger and Bjarne Kranig placed eleventh through twelfth, and Mia Krüger paired with Sophie Tan to take seventh through eighth place. The weekend concluded with the club capturing valuable national-level experience alongside Beyer’s podium finish.
