Alma Pueyo secured three medals in archery at the Santa Fe 2026 South American Games, capturing silver in the mixed recurve team event alongside Esteban, and bronze in both the women’s recurve team and women’s individual recurve competitions. Competing at the venue set up in the Hipódromo Independencia oval, the local athlete handled changing weather conditions and a packed grandstand during the multi-sport regional tournament.

Archery Success on Home Soil in Santa Fe

The multi-medal haul marked a milestone for the Rosario-born archer, who competed in front of a capacity crowd for the first time in her career. Alongside teammates María Giudice and Wanda Arca, Pueyo claimed bronze in the women’s recurve team event by defeating Peru 6-2 in the playoff duel on the eleventh day of competition, following a loss to Brazil in the earlier rounds. Despite dropping the opening set against the Peruvian side, the Argentine trio adjusted their aim on the 122-centimeter target to secure the remaining three sets.

In addition to her team bronze, Pueyo earned a silver medal in the mixed recurve team competition paired with Esteban, and rounded out her podium finishes with an individual bronze in the women’s recurve division. Reflecting on her performance throughout the regional games, Pueyo noted that weather conditions played a challenging role during the outdoor rounds. “I think I fulfilled a bit more than my expectations,” she said regarding her results.

A Distinct Atmosphere and Local Backing

Competing on home turf provided an entirely different environment than Pueyo usually encounters. While the Santa Fe 2026 venue featured a lively crowd complete with shouting, clapping, and the sound of trumpets from the grandstands, Pueyo noted this is not usually part of archery competitions.

“It’s the first time I’ve competed locally; I’ve always been a visitor,” Pueyo explained of the partisan atmosphere at the Hipódromo Independencia. The enthusiastic home backing placed her among several local athletes from Rosario who earned podium finishes during the Games.

Career Trajectory and Upcoming International Schedule

Pueyo’s journey in competitive sports began in 2019 through a development program aimed at the Youth Olympic Games. Following disruptions to training schedules caused by the pandemic, she resumed her preparation and advanced to the current sports cycle.

Looking ahead, the Argentine archer has set her sights on several major competitions. Her immediate calendar features the national archery final and a World Cup stop in Colombia. Looking further down the competitive pipeline, Pueyo will begin her preparations in 2027 for the upcoming Pan American Games scheduled in Lima.
