New Absolute Regional Archery Champions Crowned in Tito

Youth Surge Defines Basilicata Regional Archery Championships in Tito

The Basilicata Regional Archery Championships returned to Tito this February, transforming the Centro Sportivo Mancinelli into a high-stakes arena for the region’s top talent. The event, organized by Fitarco Basilicata and managed by Arcieri Lucani Potenza, saw athletes from seven different Lucanian societies compete for the absolute regional titles in a setting described as a true “theater” of the sport.

The first act of the 2026 championships highlighted a significant shift in the region’s competitive landscape. While the veterans provided the experience, the podiums were dominated by the next generation. Three of the four absolute regional champions belong to youth classes, a trend that Fitarco Basilicata views as an extraordinary signal for the future of archery in the region.

The New Absolute Regional Champions

The competition was split across the primary Olympic and Compound disciplines, with the titles being split between two prominent clubs: Venosa and Viggiano.

The New Absolute Regional Champions

In the Olympic category, Vincenzo Iovanni representing Venosa claimed the Men’s title, while Roberta Tenpone of Viggiano took the gold for the Women’s division. The Compound categories saw a similar split, with Paolo Appella (Viggiano) securing the Men’s championship and Giulia Minutiello (Venosa) winning the Women’s title.

For those unfamiliar with the equipment, the Olympic bow (recurve) is the only bow style permitted in the Olympic Games, characterized by its curved limbs. The Compound bow utilizes a system of cables and pulleys (cams) to make the bow easier to hold at full draw and typically offers higher precision and velocity.

Category Champion Club
Olimpico Maschile (Men’s Olympic) Vincenzo Iovanni Venosa
Olimpico Femminile (Women’s Olympic) Roberta Tenpone Viggiano
Compound Maschile (Men’s Compound) Paolo Appella Viggiano
Compound Femminile (Women’s Compound) Giulia Minutiello Venosa

A Strategic Win for Tito

The event was held within the tent structure of the Centro Sportivo Mancinelli, providing a controlled environment for the 18-meter indoor distances. The seamless management of the manifestation was credited to Arcieri Lucani Potenza, who handled the logistics on behalf of the Fitarco Basilicata regional delegation.

Beyond the immediate results, the event serves as a milestone for the municipality of Tito. Thanks to the efforts of Mayor Fabio Laurino and Sports Councilor Antonio Carlucci, Tito has been officially designated as the European City of Sport 2028. This designation is expected to bring increased investment and visibility to local sporting infrastructure, ensuring that events like the regional championships have a permanent, high-quality home.

The synergy between local government and sports federations was noted by Luciano Spera, the Fitarco Italia Federal Councilor, who emphasized that the availability and commitment of the city administration are critical for the growth of the sport.

What’s Next for Basilicata Archery

The regional competition is far from over. The focus now shifts to the Barebow division, a discipline where archers do not leverage sights or stabilizers, relying entirely on instinct and practice to hit the gold.

The competition returns to the shooting line in Tito on February 22 for the Regional Championship in the Barebow (Arco Nudo) division. This event will determine the remaining regional titles and further showcase the depth of talent across the seven participating Lucanian societies.
