PSSI Dismisses Reports of Ole Romeny Fractured Leg Ahead of FIFA Series
Jakarta – Concerns surrounding the fitness of Indonesian national team striker Ole Romeny ahead of the upcoming FIFA Series 2026 have been quelled by PSSI officials. Reports circulating on social media suggested the 25-year-old forward had suffered a fractured leg, potentially ruling him out of the March matches. Though, Sumardji, a member of the PSSI Executive Committee and Chairman of the National Team Body (BTN), firmly denied the claims on Friday, March 13th.
“Ole Romeny is healthy and not injured,” Sumardji told CNN Indonesia.com, directly addressing the rumors that had sparked anxiety among fans, particularly following a recent ACL injury to fellow Indonesian player, Miliano Jonathans.
The denial came swiftly after Ole Romeny himself refuted the reports. Responding to the speculation in the comments section of a football content account on Instagram, Romeny labeled the news of a fractured leg as “false news.”
The initial reports of a serious injury stemmed from comments made by football content creator Hanif Thamrin, who suggested Romeny had sustained a fracture before joining the national team preparations for the FIFA Series. “Ole Romeny is reportedly experiencing a broken leg and is likely unable to appear in the FIFA Series at the finish of March,” Thamrin stated.
Previous Injury Concerns
Romeny has faced injury setbacks previously. He suffered a significant injury during the 2025 President’s Cup, sidelining him for three months with a fractured foot. He returned to action in November 2025, gradually regaining his match fitness with Oxford United, though his progress has been described as slow.
More recently, after his last appearance for Oxford United against Stoke City on February 26th, Romeny has been absent from the team for three consecutive matches. Transfermarkt lists a re-fracture of the foot, adding fuel to the speculation surrounding his current condition. Despite this, his name remains on the list of players called up by the Indonesian national team for the FIFA Series 2026.
The FIFA Series 2026 is an expanded initiative by FIFA, featuring 48 national teams from all six confederations. Indonesia is set to participate, hosting matches as part of the competition. The series aims to provide increased international match opportunities for national teams and enhance visibility for players and nations globally. The expanded format will witness 48 teams compete in 12 groups of four during the March and April international window.
This news will come as a relief to Indonesian head coach Shin Tae-yong, who will be hoping to have as many of his key players available as possible for the upcoming matches. Romeny’s potential absence would have been a significant blow, given his importance to the team’s attacking options.
The Indonesian national team is preparing for a crucial period, with the FIFA Series serving as important preparation for future qualifying matches. The team will be looking to build momentum and improve their ranking on the world stage.
Fans will be closely monitoring Romeny’s condition in the coming days, hoping for a full recovery and a positive contribution to the national team’s efforts in the FIFA Series 2026. The PSSI’s confirmation of his current health status provides a much-needed boost to morale ahead of the tournament.
The next confirmed action for the Indonesian national team is the start of the FIFA Series 2026 in March. Further updates on player fitness and team preparations will be released by the PSSI in the coming days.
