Seahorses Donate Basketballs & Vests to 26 West Mikawa Elementary Schools | Supporting SDGs & Local Community

The Seahorses Three Rivers basketball team demonstrated a commitment to community development and youth sports on March 7th, 2026, with a significant donation of basketballs and bibs to 26 elementary schools within the city of Nishio. The initiative, part of the team’s “Be With” sustainability project, aims to foster a greater love for basketball among young people in the region.

The donation and a presentation ceremony took place during the team’s home game against the Toyama Grouses. This outreach is a direct result of a regional activation agreement between the Seahorses and the city of Nishio, highlighting the team’s dedication to strengthening ties with the local community. The Seahorses are set to enter the B.Premier league in the 2026-27 season and are looking forward to the opening of a new arena in 2028, solidifying their position as a leading professional sports team in the area.

Each of the 26 schools – including Nishio Elementary, Hananoki Elementary, and Sakushima Shiosai School – received five size 5 basketballs and 20 bibs. The donation was made possible through the generous support of several local businesses and organizations, including Kabushiki Gaisha Kamigami, Kabushiki Gaisha Toenek, Kabushiki Gaisha Hot Staff, Konics Corporation, Tsumura Kogyo Kabushiki Gaisha, Nishio Tea Cooperative, and Nishimikawa Agricultural Cooperative.

The “Be With” project, launched during the 2022-23 season, underscores the Seahorses’ commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, the initiative aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), aiming to promote healthy lifestyles and provide opportunities for children to engage in physical activity. The team’s efforts extend beyond this donation, encompassing a broader range of social contribution activities.

The March 7th game also featured a special uniform designed to represent the region’s traditions and future. The Seahorses wore a unique uniform that symbolized the connection between the team and the local community. Fans in attendance received a special gift: a matcha green Seahorses Three Rivers and Nishio City branded T-shirt, and an original Nishio City and Seahorses Three Rivers branded war fan (sensu). These gifts were made possible through partnerships with local businesses.

Beyond the equipment donation and fan giveaways, the game day included several other events. Attendees enjoyed a traditional mochi and confectionery throwing event, with the added bonus of receiving Mikawa Ichise senbei (rice crackers). The high-flying skills of trampoline dunk artist Tatsuwon were also on display, providing entertainment for fans of all ages.

This initiative represents a significant investment in the future of basketball in Nishio City and the surrounding areas. By providing essential equipment and fostering a positive environment for young athletes, the Seahorses Three Rivers are not only promoting the sport but also contributing to the overall well-being of the community. The team’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility demonstrates a dedication to being more than just a sports franchise – they are a vital part of the fabric of the region.

The Seahorses Three Rivers will continue their season with upcoming games. Fans can discover the latest schedule and ticket information on the team’s official website.
