Almonte, Spain – The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team showcased resilience and growing momentum at the second round of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Almonte, Spain, this past weekend. Brothers Jānis Mārtiņš Reišulis and Kārlis Alberts Reišulis delivered consistent performances on their Yamaha YZ250FM machines, securing top-ten finishes in the challenging, sandy conditions. This event marked a return to European racing following a demanding trip to Argentina.
The Almonte track presented a unique test for the riders, characterized by its novel layout, soft sand, and technically demanding features. Both Reišuļi brothers quickly adapted, demonstrating their ability to compete with the frontrunners in the MX2 class. The focus for the team was to build upon the positive results achieved in Argentina and continue their upward trajectory in the championship standings.
Jānis Reišulis, the reigning EMX250 champion, consistently demonstrated strong starts throughout the day. In the first moto, he quickly established himself in fourth position, battling with experienced competitors. He ultimately finished fifth, showcasing his ability to maintain pace and fight for position.

The second moto saw Jānis replicate his impressive start, holding seventh place through the midpoint of the race. A determined push allowed him to overtake Liam Everts, climbing to sixth. In a thrilling final lap, he then passed Matīss Valēns to secure another fifth-place finish. This performance earned him fifth overall for the day, and importantly, maintains his sixth-place position in the MX2 championship standings.
Kārlis Reišulis also demonstrated notable progress in Spain. The 20-year-old rider improved upon his ninth-place finish in the first moto, battling fiercely to secure eighth place in the second moto. His consistent performance resulted in an eighth-place overall finish for the round, allowing him to hold onto his eighth position in the championship.

“This was another very positive weekend,” said Jānis Mārtiņš Reišulis. “I was able to maintain my rhythm to the finish, which is something I’ve been working on, and that comes from stronger mental preparation both before and during the race. It allowed me to fight with the leading group and make good overtaking maneuvers against experienced riders. A very encouraging weekend, and we will continue to progress.”
Kārlis Alberts Reišulis echoed his brother’s sentiment, while also identifying areas for improvement. “I perceive like it could have been even better, given that I realize I have more to give. Right now, the biggest problem is maintaining a stable race rhythm. When arm pump starts, it becomes more difficult to stay calm and ride the way I want. I still need to work on that – to learn to be calmer and control it better. The second moto was a step forward for me. Even if the result wasn’t much better, the feeling on the bike was better, and that’s positive.”
Looking ahead, the team will travel to Switzerland for the next round of the championship, a venue where Kārlis Reišulis has previously achieved a podium finish. This provides a strong foundation for optimism as they aim to challenge for top positions in the coming weeks.
The MX2 championship continues to be highly competitive, with several riders vying for the top spot. The Reišuļi brothers’ consistent performances and dedication to improvement position them as strong contenders as the season progresses.
