Jokić Fuels Nuggets Victory, Continues to Build NBA Legend
Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić added another chapter to his remarkable NBA career Thursday night, leading his team to a 136-131 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. While much of the league’s attention was focused on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s consecutive 20-point game streak, Jokić delivered a performance for the ages, solidifying his place among the NBA’s all-time greats.
The Nuggets needed every bit of Jokić’s brilliance, as they overcame a 20-point deficit late in the second quarter (59-39) to secure the win. Jamal Murray was also instrumental, finishing with 39 points, propelling Denver to a crucial victory that maintains their position in the playoff picture.

Jokić finished with a dominant stat line of 31 points, 20 rebounds, and 12 assists. This performance not only led the Nuggets to victory against the Spurs, who were without Victor Wembanyama, but also saw him tie Russell Westbrook for the fourth-most triple-doubles in NBA history with 25 or more in four seasons.
More impressively, Jokić surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and now holds the record for the most games in NBA history with at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. It’s a testament to his consistent, all-around excellence.
Jokić’s Otherworldly Numbers
The Serbian giant is rapidly cementing his legacy as one of the greatest centers to ever play the game. Jokić, a three-time MVP, is in contention for a fourth, though Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is currently considered the frontrunner.

With Thursday’s performance, Jokić has reached 1000 points, 600 rebounds, and 500 assists in his first 50 games of the regular season, a feat he also accomplished last season. He has now recorded 30 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists in 10 games – a milestone previously achieved only six times in NBA history.
Still in the MVP Race
Averaging 28.7 points, 12.7 rebounds (leading the league in that category), and 10.4 assists (also leading the league, and as a center, no less) per game, Nikola Jokić remains a strong contender for the MVP award. However, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the clear favorite, and Jokić’s absence from one game already puts him at a disadvantage in the voting.
The Denver Nuggets will look to continue their momentum on Saturday when they face the Minnesota Timberwolves. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM MST (10:00 PM UTC).
