Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi Falls in Singapore International Challenge 2024 Quarterfinals

SINGAPORE – Indonesian badminton player Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi saw her hopes of a title at the Singapore International Challenge 2026 dashed on Sunday, falling to Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei in straight sets. The 23-year-old Indonesian was unable to overcome the challenge posed by her higher-ranked opponent at the Singapore Badminton Hall East Coast.

The match, completed in just 30 minutes, ended with a score of 11-21, 11-21 in favor of Goh Jin Wei. While Komang showed flashes of resilience early in the first game, she ultimately couldn’t maintain the pressure against the experienced Malaysian.

Komang Ayu started brightly, matching Goh Jin Wei point-for-point to reach a 6-6 tie. However, Goh Jin Wei quickly asserted her dominance, reeling off four consecutive points to take an 11-7 lead at the interval. She continued to build on that advantage after the break, extending her lead to 14-7 before closing out the first game with a five-point run, 21-11.

The second game followed a similar pattern. Goh Jin Wei maintained her momentum, preventing Komang Ayu from establishing a foothold. The Malaysian player’s consistent attack and strong net play proved too much for the Indonesian to handle, resulting in a decisive 21-11 victory in the second game.

This loss comes after Komang Ayu’s successful run to the final, where she defeated Thailand’s Yataweemin Ketklieng in the semi-finals, winning in straight games 21-8 and 21-12. Prior to that, she overcame Liao Jui Chi of Taiwan in a tight three-game quarterfinal match, 10-21, 21-8 and 21-14.

Goh Jin Wei, a former junior world champion, demonstrated her experience and composure throughout the final. She had secured her place in the championship match with a 21-15, 21-17 victory over another Thai player, Tidapron Kleebyeesun, in just 29 minutes.

For Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi, currently ranked 67th in the world as of January 27, 2026, this tournament represented a valuable opportunity to gain international experience and improve her ranking. She previously reached a career-high ranking of 32nd on May 13, 2025. She was as well part of the Indonesian team at the 2024 Uber Cup in Chengdu and the 2025 Asia Mixed Team Championships in Qingdao, as well as the 2024 Asian Team Championships in Selangor and the 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.

While the Singapore International Challenge title eluded her this year, Komang Ayu’s performance signals continued progress and potential for future success. The result also highlights the growing strength of Malaysian badminton, with Goh Jin Wei’s victory adding to their recent successes on the international stage.

The defeat for Komang Ayu also impacts her chances of selection for the Uber Cup squad scheduled for late April in Denmark. The team selection process will undoubtedly consider her performance in upcoming tournaments.

Next up for both players will be their respective national team commitments and preparations for future international tournaments. The badminton calendar remains busy, with numerous opportunities for both Komang Ayu and Goh Jin Wei to further showcase their talents.
