Who has a chance of winning a medal?
Favorites in cross-country skiing
The Norwegians continue to dominate among men this winter. Johannes Klaebo especially who also won the Tour de Ski. Stand behind Klaebo Harald Amundsen and Mattis Stenshagen at the forefront of the overall World Cup. This applies to women Jessica Diggins to beat. The Swedes in particular can do that Moa Ilar, Maja Dahlqvist or Ebba Andersson. Also the two Finnish women Johanna Matintalo and Jasmi Joensuu have already won World Cup races.
From a German perspective, Victoria Carl, who is banned from doping, is of course missing, but also Coletta Rydzek (twice second) or Laura Gimmler (Second in Goms) impressed in the sprint. Little is going on for the German men this winter. Florian Notz achieved the best result of the season with twelfth place. A medal is not to be expected.
Favorites in Ski jumping
Anything but gold for Domain Prevc (Slovenia) would be a small sensation. However, there are regular surprises on the normal hill at the World Championships and Olympics; the pilot Prevc doesn’t feel as comfortable there as he does on the larger hills. The Japanese are also in this season Ryoyu Kobayashi and Ren Nikaido in good shape. The Austrians can hope for medals Jan Hörl, Daniel Tschofenig and Stephan Embacher as well as Stefan Kraft have four athletes who can jump onto the podium. A German medal would be surprising. The two best in the overall World Cup, Philipp Raimund and Felix Hoffmann, had their problems recently despite Raimund’s third place in Willingen.
When it comes to women, the Germans at least have it Selina Friday a podium candidate in our own ranks. The competition from Japan Nozomi Maruyamafrom Austria Lisa Eder and the all-surpassing one Nika Prevc (Slovenia) are to be assessed more strongly. Katharina SchmidGermany’s most successful jumper, is retiring after this season; these are her last Winter Games.

:The ski jumper who is afraid of heights
While the established DSV eagles are weakening, Philipp Raimund is flying to the top of the world just in time for the Four Hills Tournament – if it weren’t for the latent danger of a loss of control.
Nordic combination favorites
After the health-related retirement of high-flyer Jarl Magnus Riiber, there is more competition again. Johannes Lamparter (Austria, five World Cup victories), Jens Lura’s Öftebrö (Norway, three World Cup victories) and Julian Schmid (Germany, one World Cup victory) are at the top of the overall World Cup. Vincent Geiger2022 Olympic champion, has already won two races. Also Öftebrös Bruder Einar as well as the Straight eggs-Brothers from Austria (Stefan and Thomas) are among the medal candidates.
