The Cuban pitcher Yunesky Maya was honored as an honorary citizen of the city of Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic, in recognition of his sporting career, endurance, discipline and commitment to the Águilas Cibaeñasone of the most well-known franchises in Dominican baseball.

During the official event, Santiago Mayor Ulises Rodríguez highlighted the special connection between the Cuban baseball player and the city: “Today, Santiago experiences a moment of deep pride as we recognize a man who defended our colors with passion and character. Yunesky Maya understood what it means to play in this city, where not only talent counts, but also total dedication, and that is why today we declare him an honorary citizen of Santiago, formalizing what we have long felt in our hearts.”
The recognition not only symbolizes Maya’s sporting successes, but also her full integration into the sporting and social life of Santiago, the city that welcomed her like a local and where she continues to bring her experience to the Águilas Cibaeñas coaching team.
