Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs emerged victorious in the spectacular match played on Saturday January 17 against the Minnesota Timberwoves, concluded with a score of 126 to 123 in favor of the Texans.
The French player’s 39 points (as well as 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks) were very useful in resisting the 55 points scored by Anthony Edwards.
“Wemby” blazed with three baskets in a row behind the arc in the 2e quarter-time, his team taking a 25-point lead. The 22-year-old showed his full offensive range with a drive powerful, or a double giant step to reach the basket after having blown up a defender.
But the leaping Anthony Edwards propelled the return of his team in the 3e quarter-time, making a total of 9 long-distance baskets out of 16 attempted. “Ant Man” was as usual excellent in the last minutes. He scored 26 points in the fourth quarter, a phenomenal total.
The Wolves regained the advantage three times, but Wembanyama at mid-distance then Keldon Johnson from afar definitively validated the success of the locals, second in the West (29 victories, 13 defeats).
De’Aaron Fox, for his part, scored 25 points and delivered 12 assists, allowing San Antonio to avoid a sweep of the three-game series against Minnesota this season.
