TCF Ranking: Falls to Last Place

TC Falkenberg has fallen to last place in the men’s tennis association league. In the 2:4 home defeat in the derby against TV Süd Bremen, the team around captain Lennart Riemann missed the possible draw in the final doubles. Especially since the hosts had advantages in the top individual positions.

Peer Wehking, for example, showed an impressive and almost flawless performance. He brought practically everything back against his powerful opponent and always skilfully took the pace out of the rallies. A break to make it 5:4 in the first set finally put Falkenberg’s number one on the winning path. On the other hand, Paul Niebur did not have to reach his performance limits during the one-sided first round (6:0). In this phase it was largely enough for him to keep the ball in play. Accordingly, Niebur had problems changing his tactics at the beginning of the second set when his opponent suddenly improved significantly. However, Falkenberg made up for the 0-3 deficit with many effective slice serves to the outside and now more aggressive forehand strokes.

In third place, Lennart Riemann said he was “everything too fast” in his individual. In the hall he was dealing with an almost two meter tall, strong serving left-hander who was always in the lead and played the match confidently from the front. With his few breakballs, Riemann didn’t have any real opportunities on the return. Per Schröder’s encounter was similar, as he was regularly on the defensive against a classic hard hitter. Although he improved and was able to make the rallies longer by interspersing slice shots, his nimble, risky opponent often found a suitable answer to this too.

While Peer Wehking and Christian Hobbie had to quickly congratulate their opponents after an early loss of serve in the second set, Marco Ehrich and Paul Niebur fought a duel at eye level. Both offensively oriented duos did not show any weakness when serving on their own serves for a long time. It was only when the set was extended that the decision was made to the home team’s disadvantage. “Marco and Paul didn’t get nervous,” their teammate Lennart Riemann defended them, “we simply didn’t have the necessary fortune when it came to passes on the line or volleys that got caught on the edge of the net.”

TC Falkenberg – TV Süd Bremen 2:4: Wehking – Greed 6:4, 6:1; Niebur – Albrecht 6:0, 7:5; Riemann – Groening 3:6, 3:6; Schröder – Tilbürger 3:6, 2:6; Ehrich/Niebur – Gier/Gröning 5:7, 5:7; Wehking/Hobbie – Albrecht/Tilbürger 4:6, 1:6
