UFC PRESIDENT Dana White has once again stood by his controversial comments about football, which he first made 14 years ago. In a 2012 interview, White called the most popular sport in the world “the sport with the least talent,” a statement that still occasionally goes viral on social media today.
During a recent appearance on Big Boy TV, White was asked about his famous comments. Before repeating his opinion, he wanted to make one thing clear. “That wasn’t recently. That was 15 years ago,” White (56) said, then recounted his viral interview and confirmed everything he said then about football.
“Hockey is for the talented, football is not”
“What I said was, ‘It’s the sport with the least talent.’ I can’t remember how it started or how we started talking about it, but I said, ‘There’s a reason three-year-olds play it.’ I said, ‘When the net is the size of that wall and the score is 1-1…'”
To clarify his position, he compared football to hockey. “I’m not a big fan of hockey. Those guys are skating 180 km/h on the ice, bent over with the wrong stick. The goal is the size of the guy standing in front of it, and anyone can kill you at any time. You know, it’s a sport for the talented,” he explained and concluded:
“I don’t like football, I’m not a big fan. I love Cristiano Ronaldo, I have a great relationship with him. I love him. No offense to any of those guys, but I’m just not a football fan.”
