Real Madrid Clash: Date & Details

Not Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord, but Benfica may become Stije Resink’s new club. According to the Dagblad van het Noorden, the FC Groningen captain is in the ‘strong interest’ of coach José Mourinho’s Portuguese superpower.

Resink can count on interest from the entire Eredivisie top, while various (top) clubs from Germany, England, Spain and Turkey are keeping an eye on him. Benfica is now actively involved in the battle for the signature of the 22-year-old FC Groningen midfielder.

“Due to the interest of Champions League participant Benfica, trained by José Mourinho, FC Groningen could still lose the captain this winter,” it writes. Dagblad van het Noorden Wednesday evening. The Portuguese superpower from Lisbon would like to ‘trump other interested clubs by signing Resink now’, it sounds.

From the summer, a release clause of six million euros will become active in Resink’s Groningen contract. ‘If the Portuguese offer (well) above the buyout sum that will take effect next summer, FC Groningen can hardly refuse.’

Due to the interest of Benfica, Resink can dream of the Champions League. Mourinho’s team will play against Real Madrid in Estádio da Luz next week, although the non-registered Resink will not be allowed to play. Groningen director Frank van Mosselveld says that no club has officially reported yet. “Stije is not for sale for us at the moment,” said Van Mosselveld.
