After five defeats in a row, hockey coach Kamil Pokorný is leaving the Komety Brno team, which he led to the extra-league title last season. The club reported about it on its website website with the fact that the 58-year-old coach quits at his own request.
“After Sunday’s match and mature consideration, I came to the conclusion that I will ask Libor Zábranský to be relieved of the position of head coach. I feel exhausted and after the unsuccessful matches, I think that a new impulse can come to the team, when close losses will start to turn to the Comets’ side,” said Pokorný. The Brno team is in 10th place in the table after Sunday’s 2:3 defeat with Karlovy Vary.
The owner and general manager of the club, Libor Zábranský, plans to announce the name of the Humble successor in the next few hours. The next match awaits Kometa on Tuesday on the ice of Olomouc.
“I’ve known Kamil long enough that I can understand his decision. I know the situation he entered after the departure of Jarda Modrý, and not only did he manage this period perfectly. After all, the Kometa’s third title in the modern history of the club is a clear proof of that,” said Zábranský.
Pokorný returned to Brno before last season originally as Jaroslav Modry’s assistant, but for family reasons he returned overseas and Pokorný became the head coach.
“I would never consider dismissing Kamil or other members of the implementation team. Kamil will continue to have a valid contract at Kometa and I wish for nothing more than for him to rest and get his health back in order,” said Zábranský, to whom Pokorný was an assistant in the past.
Pokorný worked in the Brno rotation in various positions for almost eight seasons and took part in winning three championship titles in 2017, 2018 and last year.
