The Georgia club announced on Sunday the hiring of Kevin Stefanski as head coach.

The 43-year-old man held the same functions with the Cleveland Browns in recent years (2020-2025). During his first two campaigns at the helm of the Ohio team, Mayfield worked under his orders.

On Tuesday, journalist D. Orlando Ledbetter wrote on the social network

The “Bucs” pivot obviously did not appreciate it and responded directly to him.

“Failed, that’s quite an exaggeration, man. I’m still waiting for a text or call from him after being dumped like trash. I look forward to seeing you twice a year, coach,” Mayfield wrote.

The 30-year-old quarterback was selected by the Browns with the first pick in the 2018 draft. He made 30 starts and went 17-13 under Stefanski.

In July 2022, the Cleveland organization traded Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 draft. He played seven games with that team, before requesting to be released. He then joined the Los Angeles Rams, with whom he managed to relaunch his career. Mayfield joined the Buccaneers the following offseason and has received two Pro Bowl invitations since.

As the Tampa Bay and Atlanta teams are both in the South section of the National Association, they face each other twice in the regular season. In 2025, the confrontations between these two teams were hotly contested. The “Bucs” won 23 to 20 during the first week of activities, while the Falcons won 29 to 28 during the 15e week.
