The NBA has announced that the match between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors, scheduled for tonight, has been postponed by one day for security reasonswithout expressly mentioning what happened in Minneapolis in the last few hours with the killing of a 37-year-old man, a regular US citizen and without a criminal record, at the hands of ICE (Immigration and Custom Enforcement) agents, the federal police responsible for protecting national borders. The match will be held on Sunday at 11.30pm Italian time and, subsequently, the two teams will also face each other on Monday, as was already scheduled in the US League calendar.
The city of Minneapolis has been at the center of US news for several weeks following the death on January 7 of Renee Nicole Good, killed by an ICE agent.
Following his murder there were numerous protests not only in Minnesota but across the United States. The federal police are accused of brutal methods against defenseless people and demonstrators. The mayor and governor of the state of Minnesota asked the police to cease operations and leave the city. The US government supports and supports the work of the federal force and asks the police and local institutions to “cooperate” to extinguish the now very high tensions. There are no other reactions for the moment from other sports teams in the city.
