Last night, thanks to an inspired Stephen Curry in the third quarter, the Warrios returned to victory, as Jaylen Brown’s drive for his part allowed the Celtics to win the Clippers with 50 points on the clock.
The leader of the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry, was the author of a spectacular match against the Utah Jazz (123 – 114). The 37-year-old scored 31 points, including 21 in the third quarter, while his team trailed at halftime (65-68).
Returning from injury, Steph was able to count on his two lieutenants, Jimmy Butler (author of 15 points) and Draymond Grenn (although expelled once again in the match). The return of the “big three” allowed the San Francisco team to return to victory, following the defeat the day before against the defending champion team, Oklahoma City.
This remarkable performance by the “Chief” allowed him to go a little deeper into the history of the North American basketball league. Only two other players have managed to score 20 points or more during a third quarter in the NBA, these are Kobe Bryant (36 times), Lebron James (32 times). And Curry did it 45 times, far ahead of the two legends of the orange ball.
The Currys in history
Furthermore, Steph has just reached his 1,052nd career game, only 31 games separate him from his father Dell Curry (1,083) between 1986 and 2002. As a result, Dell and Curry have combined no less than 2,135 career games, unheard of for a father-son duo in the NBA. The previous record was 1,234 from the duo, Dolph Schayes and his son Danny.
Jaylen Brown sets record
The MVP of the 2024 Finals, during the coronation of Boston, Jaylen Brown offered victory to his team thanks to 50 points (his personal record in the NBA equaled) scored against the Los Angeles Clippers (146 – 115). He made 18 out of 26 shots attempted, including a whopping 6 out of 10 at 3 points.
Like Steph Curry, the Celtics player was more prolific in the third quarter, where he scored 19 points.
After this recital, Jaylen Brown became the third player to score 50 or more points multiple times in a game in the history of the Boston Celtics franchise.
In this list we find Jayson Tatum (5 times) and Larry Bird (4 times) and Jaylen Brown (2)
