Man City’s Champions League Parade: Norway Mockery

FK Bodö/Glimt caused a minor sensation in the Champions League and inflicted a potentially fatal defeat on Manchester City. In Norway, team manager Pep Guardiola’s star ensemble lost 1:3 (0:2) when they were outnumbered, leaving important points behind in the race for direct qualification for the round of 16. City no longer has a place in the top eight of the league phase in their own hands.

The double goalscorer Kasper Högh (22nd/24th) and the former Frankfurt player Jens Petter Hauge with a dream goal (58th) sent the 8,270 fans in the far north of Norway into ecstasy. Rayan Cherki scored for City (60th), mastermind Rodri was shown a yellow-red card by German referee Sven Jablonski (62nd) and made it difficult to catch up.

Manchester, which has not won in the last four games in the Premier League, is threatened with the play-offs. Borussia Dortmund, among others, who also stumbled against Bodö/Glimt in December (2:2), could now overtake them. On the last matchday (January 28th) City will face Galatasaray Istanbul. Meanwhile, Bodö/Glimt has a minimal remaining chance of making the play-offs.

The hosts, who had not yet played a competitive game in 2026, got off to a better start on the artificial turf at the Aspmyra Stadium in Bodö. After initial attempts at approach, Högh completed two counterattacks ice cold. City recovered a little later, but star striker Erling Haaland missed the goal before half-time (35th/45th).

Instead of the favorites furiously catching up after the break, outsiders Bodö/Glimt continued their strong performance. Hauge shot a shot into the right angle to make it 3-0. Cherki’s goal also remained a side note because midfielder Rodri made two tactical fouls within two minutes and was sent off the pitch (61st/62nd).

Meanwhile, the Norwegians failed to make their lead even clearer: two more goals from Högh were disallowed due to offside (52nd/65th), Hauge failed to hit the crossbar (63rd).
