Judokas BC: State Championships This Weekend

The discipline remains in an accelerated preparation process with the aim of consolidating itself among the three best in the country.

Tijuana, Baja California.– With the aim of strengthening the preparation of Baja Californian judokas seeking qualification for the 2026 National Olympics, a technical control will be carried out this weekend in the multipurpose gym of the Tijuana High Performance Center.

This exercise is part of the strategic planning implemented in view of the advance of the National Olympics calendar and will allow the evaluation of the technical and competitive level of the athletes prior to the state eliminatory, scheduled for next January 31.

“All this is part of a process that we had to speed up, because the National Olympics were brought forward. This meeting will not be a regular training session, but rather an evaluation exercise in which we will analyze the current level of the athletes for the state competition,” said Josan Fajer, president of the Baja California State Judo Association.

From the state championship will arise the delegation that will represent Baja California in the “Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi” National Championship, a qualifying event towards the National Olympiad, which will take place in two stages: the first on February 19 and the second during the second half of March.

“The importance of Tomoyoshi lies in the fact that it will be the qualifying event for the National Olympiad. Since it is held in two phases, it will allow us to form a team with a high competitive level,” highlighted the judo leader in the entity.

In the first stage of the national competition, athletes from the Cadet, Junior and Sub 24 categories will participate, while in the second phase judokas from the Pre-Children, Sub 13 and Sub 15 divisions will compete.

The technical control will be carried out in coordination with the methodological team of the Institute of Sports and Physical Culture of Baja California (INDEBC) and the participation of around 100 athletes is expected.

Judo is considered one of the priority disciplines for Baja Californian sports, support that is based on the results obtained in the last edition of the National Olympiad, where the state delegation won the runner-up position by state, with a balance of six gold, six silver and seven bronze medals.
