At FC Augsburg, the storm question remains open before the Bundesliga game at Borussia Mönchengladbach (Sunday, 3:30 p.m.) – also because new signing Michael Gregoritsch is an option for the starting eleven sooner than expected. The 31-year-old has only been back at FCA for two days, but has completed all training sessions straight away.
Head coach Manuel Baum made it clear at the press conference on Friday that an early start from the start is definitely possible. “Everything is possible there too,” explained Baum, pointing out the great advantage of getting used to it quickly. Gregoritsch already knows the club, many of the players and the processes – so the onboarding was short.
At the same time, Baum made it clear that there are currently several serious alternatives to the storm. In addition to Gregoritsch, Samuel Essende and Anton Kade are also candidates for the central offensive role. “Those are the three for this one position,” said the FCA coach.
Baum deliberately left it open who would ultimately be allowed to play against Gladbach from the start. Whether it’s a starting eleven, a joker role or an appearance in one of the following games – everything depends on the opponent and the course of the game. One thing is clear, however: With Gregoritsch, an additional, immediately usable option has been added, which noticeably invigorates the competition in the Augsburg storm.
