The Eraman company, organizer of the Gernika Punta Cana Winter Series, has decided to put aside the video refereeing that it established in the previous edition of the tournament … after what happened in the two semi-final group matches in which he had to act in the last goal to decide who won the match.
The promoter has issued a three-point statement in which it indicates that the VAR figure will be paused for the remainder of the championship and will open “a period of reflection on its future use.” «Starting next day the competition will go from four to three judges in each match. “The central court judge will have maximum power.”
The promoter has also shown its full support for the work of the judges of the Vizcaya Basque Pelota Federation, and has stressed that it will continue to “abide by their decisions to guarantee the maximum independence of the tournament, just as we have done until now.” He appreciates their work and highlights their success “in the vast majority of the decisions made”, in addition to recognizing “the difficulty of their work in the sport of basket-punta.”
Two cases
In the first match of the group that faced Urreisti-López with Goitia-Lekerika, he had to resolve two requests after the dispute of the last goal that gave the victory to the seconds in the third set. First a bounce in the basket by the Gernika defender and then a touch by Urreisti when trying to score a backhand ball against the wall.
In the match last Monday where Urreisti-López faced Johan and Gorka, the Basque-French striker subtracted a serve from Mutrikui with a two-wall. The ball was very close to the counter-court line and, although it seemed out of bounds, the video referee determined that it had been good and reaffirmed the decision of his teammates.
“Eraman also wants to show its support for Eñaut Urreisti and Imanol López after having been directly affected by the latest arbitration decisions,” the statement concludes.
