WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase Sr. filed one last summer, according to Mississippi’s Dark Horse Press Now Defamation lawsuit against the Mississippi State Comptroller Shad Whitea. White made false and damaging statements about DiBiase Sr. in his book “Mississippi Swindle.”
Between 2016 and 2019, a major fraud involving federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds was discovered in the US state of Mississippi. In total, millions of US dollars that were supposed to benefit poor families were said to have been used incorrectly. The case is considered the largest embezzlement scandal of public funds in Mississippi history. DiBiase and his two sons are said to be involved, as is former NFL quarterback Brett Favre.

DiBiase claims the comments damaged his reputation and contributed to the closure of his nonprofit, Heart of David Ministries, in January 2025. DiBiase’s lawsuit includes claims for defamation, defamation per se, negligence and gross negligence. He is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, attorneys’ fees and court costs, as well as an injunction and an injunction to prevent further publication and distribution of the book.
