ŠPINDLEROV MLYN – Špindlerov Mlyn successfully passed the inspection of the International Ski Federation and the organizers received the green light for holding the World Cup race.
The Krkonoše resort will host them on January 24 and 25, when elite skiers, including the star Mikaela Shiffrinová, will first complete a giant slalom and then a special slalom on the slope in St. Peter. The Czech Skiers’ Union stated on its website that FIS delegate Wojciech Gajewski confirmed the readiness of the track today.
“We officially passed the inspection by the FIS at noon today and now we have the definitive green light for the race itself,” said race director Peter Záhrobský Jr. “A visual inspection took place and on the black piste we carried out several checks of the snow layer and its compactness with a drill in various places,” he explained.
According to Záhrobský, there is currently between 50 and 60 centimeters of snow on the track, in some places the layer exceeds a meter. Even the current fog and rainy weather should not endanger the slope.
“Drizzling is unpleasant for our colleagues from the infrastructure section, who build tribunes and tents for the background. But for us, it is a natural preparation, so we are happy for it these days.” declared Záhrobský. The organizers used three freezing days last week to prepare the track, when they sprayed almost two million liters of water on the downhill track.
Part of the so-called Snow Control by the FIS was also a visual check of the starting platforms or the readiness of the timing cables along the track. The organizing team also confirmed definitively wider racing slopes, the deployment of safety nets, inflatable mattresses and the securing of the finish area with the cameraman and the aimer, the association said.
