The year 2026 did not start easily for Maria Růžičková. The wife of hockey coach Vladimír Růžičky announced very painful news on the social network – her beloved grandfather died. The man to whom she was a great support for a long time and whom she tried to protect until the last moments, left after a serious illness.
Marie Růžičková took care of her grandfather for a long time and spoke openly about his state of health already in the autumn of last year. That’s when she decided on a difficult step – to transfer him from Havířov to the Litvínov hospital for the long-term sick, so that she could be closer to him and could visit him regularly. Grandfather suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and needed round-the-clock care.

“I visit him every day, but it just wouldn’t work at home. He needs to be under 24-hour supervision.” Marie explained her decision at the time after she had also encountered criticism. But it was obvious that she does everything with the utmost love and consideration for his health.
Now she had to say goodbye to her grandfather forever. She announced the sad news through social networks, where she published a touching message that shows immense pain and love.
“It hurts a lot. You’re not in any pain anymore… thank you for everything, Grandpa, and say hello to Grandma and Daddy up there.” she wrote alongside a black and white photo of her grandfather.
The loss of a loved one is always extremely painful, even more so when a person cares for him for a long time and is close to him until his last days. For Maria Růžičková, the beginning of the new year is marked by deep sadness, but also by the knowledge that she did her best for her grandfather.
