Russian club FK Sochi parted ways with coach Robert Moreno in September. It was only months later that it was learned that his excessive use of ChatGPT had played a role in this decision.
Robert Moreno, briefly interim coach of Spain in 2019 and of AS Monaco (2019-2020), would have, according to the management of FK Sotchi, relied too much on artificial intelligence. To the point of neglecting one’s own common sense.
During his time at FK Sochi, he developed his travel and training programs via ChatGPT. This notably led to extreme planning, with a 28-hour period of no sleep imposed on players, causing unease in the dressing room.
He also relied heavily on AI for his transfer decisions, such as when recruiting striker Artur Shushenachev, who left after ten games without scoring a single goal.
A lack of empathy
Little by little, players and staff members began to doubt his methods. According to technical director Andrei Orlov, the Spanish coach lacked empathy towards his assistants and his group, which increased internal discontent.
Although he managed to return FK Sochi to the Premier Liga, his team then took just one point in seven games, ultimately leading to his dismissal. Under the leadership of his successor, Igor Osinjkin, the club still occupies last place in the standings.
