Twice 0-2: BVB and Leverkusen are worried about their progress
Both Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen suffered defeats in the Champions League. The chances of advancing are different for both clubs.
Borussia Dortmund suffered a bitter defeat in the Champions League. The Bundesliga club lost 0-2 (0-2) at crisis club Tottenham Hotspur and therefore missed out on qualifying for the knockout round early.
Cristian Romero (14th minute) and Dominic Solanke (37th) scored in the first half for the 14th place team. the English Premier League. In between, Dortmund’s Daniel Svensson saw a red card in the 25th minute.
Borussia Dortmund shows poor performance
Tottenham had not won a competitive game before this year. To do this, the reigning Europa League winner from London had to replace a total of 13 injured, suspended or ineligible professionals.
Nevertheless, Dortmund put on a very poor performance against this struggling opponent in the first half. It was only after the break that BVB dominated this game when they were outnumbered, at least at times.
Borussia still has their progress in the premier class in their own hands. The last matchday of the league phase will be against last year’s finalists Inter Milan in their own stadium on Wednesday, January 28th.
Leverkusen hopes for playoffs in the Champions League
Bayer Leverkusen continued their messed up start to the year in the Champions League. Coach Kasper Hjulmand’s team lost 0-2 (0-2) to the Greek champions Olympiacos Piraeus, building on their weakest start to the year since 2004 after two recent league defeats. Without winning a point, Leverkusen is not yet guaranteed to qualify for the knockout rounds.
In front of around 33,000 fans in the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, Costinha (2nd minute) and Mehdi Taremi (45th+1) scored for the home team. With only one match day left in the league phase, the Werkself remain at nine points and are under pressure in the final game against Villareal next Wednesday. Last year, a place in the top 24 and participation in the playoffs required at least eleven points.
