Bayern Munich’s basketball players’ race to catch up in the EuroLeague is over again. After two wins, the German champions lost to title contenders Olympiakos Piraeus 80:95. In Greece, a fast-paced first half with both teams scoring a total of almost 100 points was followed by the home team’s dominant response after the break when Bayern ran out of steam.
The team of the new Serbian coach Svetislav Pesic suffered a setback in the already difficult fight for the play-offs. With a record of seven wins and 14 defeats, the Munich team slipped to 17th place.
Piraeus underlines its dominance after the break
In the duel between the national champions, Bayern had to contend with significant personnel concerns. “The game at Olympiakos doesn’t come at a good time,” Pesic complained about the absences of captain Vladimir Lucic, Nikola Jovic and DBB national player Justus Hollatz.
