Barcelona and Real Madrid collided on Sunday evening in an El Clásico in the final of the Spanish Super Cup. For Barcelona, Swedish talent Roony Bardghji started on the sidelines, while Kylian Mbappé, who has been injured recently, started on Real Madrid’s bench.
Barcelona and Real Madrid took turns creating chances in the first half, but it was the Catalan giants who took the lead through Raphinha to make it 1-0. The brass struck with a fine finish and had to celebrate after 36 minutes of play.
Real Madrid equalized just before halftime. Vinicius Junior put in a solo performance as he got past several players to make it 1-1. It was then followed by two more goals in overtime. First, Robert Lewandowski made it 2-1, before Gonzalo Garcia equalized to make it 2-2. Thus it was a senseless end with three goals in overtime in the first act of the super cup final.
In the second half, Barcelona pushed for a new lead and in the 73rd minute, Raphinha scored twice to make it 3-2. It later heated up in extra time, as Frenkie de Jong was sent off after coming in stud-first on Kylian Mbappé, who came on in the second half.
Despite the expulsion, Barcelona held on and won the final. In doing so, the big club secured its first title this season.
– The most important thing is that we won 3-2 and have won another title. The whole team is united and we are dangerous, says Barcelona goalscorer Robert Lewandowski according to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
Roony Bardghji remained on the bench for the entire match, but now gets to celebrate his first title with Barcelona. Afterwards, he was seen in the Barcelona dressing room on teammate Alejandro Balde’s Instagram, when he celebrated with, among others, Lamine Yamal. The Swede was wearing sunglasses and moving to music.
According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will receive eight million euros, roughly 85 million Swedish kronor, for the final victory and participation in the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.
