“The contract extension means a lot to me because Austria Vienna is my home in football. I went through the academy here and always dreamed of playing for the professionals one day – now being able to continue on this path is something special,” Saljic is quoted in the broadcast.
The U21 national player, who made his breakthrough this season, will also be given the number ten shirt from next season.
Back in training
“I’m grateful for the club’s trust and I’m really looking forward to the next steps. My goals are clear: I want to continue to improve, help the team with performance and commitment and be successful with Austria. I want to take on even more responsibility, consistently play at a high level and compete for the top places as a team,” the offensive player continued.
After his syndosmotic ligament tear in October, Saljic is now back in training. He is currently completing basic military service in the Federal Army.
“We are extremely pleased that we were able to commit Sanel Šaljić, one of the most talented Austrian U21 team players, to us on a long-term basis. Before his injury, he had already shown flashes of his talent. Now it is a matter of Sanel establishing himself as a regular player for the professionals and consistently delivering the performances he has already shown over a longer period of time,” sports director Michael Wagner is quoted as saying.
