Damián Nahuel Bertino (39) had been a fugitive from justice for almost a year. The Police were looking for him for robbing him along with three accomplices merchandise valued in millions of pesos from the warehouse of a wholesaler in Luis Guillón.
After several months of investigation, the Lomas de Zamora DDI detectives found him participating in a soccer tournamentone of his passions. They waited for the game to end and once the final whistle blew, they stopped it.
A photo on his social networks gave him away. “He commented that he was playing in an amateur soccer league and showed the shirt“, he said to Clarion a researcher.
The detail on the shirt indicated which team it belonged to. The officers searched leagues in the southern area until they found the accused’s team competing in a league that takes place on a property in Burzacoin Admiral Brown.
“They started looking for him in several games of different categories. When they identified him, they went to see him several times. The day they arrested him they waited until he finished playing to grab him,” said the source consulted.
Detectives confirmed Bertino’s identity by tattoos on both arms and his right leg. They also gathered several photographs of him playing to add them to the file that is in charge of the Prosecutor’s Office No. 4 of Esteban Echeverría.
The theft that the now detained person is accused of was committed on January 14, 2024 at the distributor “The Tradition”located at Camino de Cintura at 1700, by Luis Guillón. For the same reason three other suspects imprisoned: Fabricio Raúl Astrolog, Maximiliano Andrés Correa and Mauro Persincula.
According to the investigation, the criminals arrived at the warehouse in a Volkswagen Golf and a white Renault Kangoo utility vehicle. According to the accusation, Astrolog and Correa had access to the place and to enter the warehouse they had to pass through an internal patio and break a sheet of glass wool.
Once at the warehouse they seized a large amount of merchandise that they loaded into their vehicles. Among what was stolen there were more than 200 boxes of fernet, as many of other alcoholic beverages, snacksshampoo refills, rinse cream and soaps, and various cleaning products.
Thanks to the analysis of security cameras and testimonies, the Lomas de Zamora DDI detectives identified the four suspects and a few months later they arrested Astrolog, Correa and Persincula, while Bertino remained a fugitive.
Based on the analysis of social networks, the researchers finally located him: they not only discovered where he played football, but also his current address and his lifestyle.
“I had a lot of money. I was living in a closed neighborhood in La Plata,” he confided to Clarion one of the informants.
What had not changed was his passion for playing football with friends and that ended up being the key to him ending up behind bars.
