Arsenal turned their Champions League victory against Inter into a win. The Londoners left San Siro with a 1-3 victory thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus (2) and Viktor Gyökeres. Arsenal are now more firmly in first place, while Inter appear to have to win their next match, away at Borussia Dortmund, to reach the top eight.
Arsenal started aggressively and was rewarded for its intentions in the tenth minute. After a long attack, Jurriën Timber got the ball at his feet. The right back’s shot failed completely, but luckily for him Gabriel Jesus still tapped in and the Dutch international received an assist: 0-1.
Inter was shocked by his bad start and immediately accelerated. One of the first big opportunities was taken immediately. After a wonderful pass from Lautaro Martínez, Marcus Thuram was just unable to finish, after which the falling ball ended up just outside the box at Petar Susic. The Croatian beautifully painted the ball into the top corner behind the hopeless David Raya: 1-1.
Lautaro once again distinguished himself with a beautiful pass, creating a huge opportunity for Thuram. The Frenchman shot wildly over and saw it quickly become 1-2 at the other end. And again Jesus was the celebrated man. Leandro Trossard headed back from a corner to the Brazilian, who scored with a simple header: 1-2.
Inter mainly tried to strike from the counter against the ball-dominant Arsenal. The Nerazzurri were given space regularly, but Luis Henrique shot wildly over and the chance was wasted. Federico Dimarco, twice, was also unable to get past David Raya, although the Italian at least got his efforts on target.
After the break, Alessandro Bastoni prevented the score from becoming 1-3. With a great sliding slide he canceled out an upcoming goal by Bukayo Saka. Moments before, the right winger also came close, but then he shot just wide on a pass from Trossard. Inter replied through Pio Esposito, whose shot from the turn rolled wide of Raya’s goal.
It remained tense for a long time, but everything changed after Gyökeres came on. The Swede was cold in the field when he was beautifully sent deep by Gabriel Martinelli and wanted to reach Saka. That failed, but it did give him the opportunity to beautifully find the top corner from the edge of sixteen: 1-3.
