Yarabí Ávila & Historic 2025 for Nicolaita Sport

Morelia, Michoacán, December 20, 2025. – Like never before, the Michoacana University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH) reached historic figures in terms of qualified athletes and number of medals obtained in the 2025 National Universiade, a result of the determined support that the rector Yarabí Ávila González has given to the sport and the talent and effort of the Nicolaitan athletes.

This year and after finishing as the best university in the state and regional stages, Casa de Hidalgo managed to qualify 161 athletes for the highest student competition in the country, a historic number, of which 69 students were women and 92 men, who competed in 16 disciplines such as chess, athletics, triathlon, swimming, taekwondo, badminton, women’s and men’s beach volleyball, women’s and men’s hurdles soccer, soccer women’s and men’s association, karate, judo, women’s and men’s 3×3 basketball, weight lifting, paddle tennis, archery and boxing.

And after a brilliant performance by the Nicolaitans, they set a medal record by winning a total of 26 metals, of which were six Gold, four Silver and 16 Bronze.

“The Universidad Michoacana is experiencing its best moment in terms of sports, there has never been so much support for sports, we have better facilities, we have taken more athletes to the National Universiade, we have just had a historic achievement of 26 university medals, we have national teams and all of this is due to the great support that our rector, Yarabí Ávila, has given us,” commented Gustavo Farías, director of University Sports and Sports Infrastructure at the UMSNH.
