Defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder around German center Isaiah Hartenstein suffered its third defeat of the season in the NBA. The dominant team of the year lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves 107:112 (51:48). Hartenstein grabbed ten rebounds, but had a weak day offensively, only scoring one point and failing to score from the field or assist.
In a thrilling game, Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards became the decisive player. The Timberwolves’ star player had recently missed three games and now scored 26 points, giving his team a decisive lead in the final minute with a converted three-pointer. As usual, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the league’s most valuable player last season, shone for Oklahoma. He scored 35 points.
NBA Cup winner New York loses
The Thunder got off to a historically good start to the season with 24 wins from the first 25 games, but have now lost two of three games. After a weak start to the season, the Timberwolves are now in sixth place in the Western Conference.
The San Antonio Spurs, who won against the Thunder in the semifinals of the NBA Cup last week, are in an even better position. Victor Wembanyama’s team won clearly with 126:98 at the Atlanta Hawks. NBA Cup winners New York Knicks suffered a surprising home defeat 107:116 against the Philadelphia 76ers.
