The four associations present since 2015 will continue to operate in the Parco delle Cave. The Municipality of Milan is in fact about to stipulate a new concession contract, given that the previous one expired in the summer of 2025. We learn this from a council resolution and the subsequent contract outline, which date back to 23 and 24 December, with a view to the stipulation expected by the 31st.
The associations
The Aurora fishermen’s union, the Il Bersagliere association, the Cava Cabassi fishermen’s association and the Shadow Archery Team association have been operating in the Cave Park since 2007 through free concessions and, since 2015, with a five-year agreement, which was then renewed for the same number of five years.
Activities and protection of the territory
In exchange for the free concession, the associations will undertake (as so far) to organize free activities and events aimed at citizens, including volunteer camps, guided tours, trekking and initiatives with children, disabled people, elderly people and families, to involve citizens in learning about the park and its functions, as well as correct public use. They will take care of the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the areas and assets, except for what is strictly municipal responsibility. The conditions and clauses are substantially identical to those in force in previous years.
Among the functions expressly requested, there is no lack of combating degradation and collaboration with the police. At the Parco delle Cave, sports associations have always been recognized as a fundamental element in protecting the territory.
The history of the park
The Cave Park, which extends between Baggio and Quinto Romano, is the third in Milan after the North Park and the Forlanini Park. It covers approximately 135 hectares, of which 29 are covered by water (four artificial basins, a pond and waterways). The first sports associations present at the quarries date back to 1929. The 1976 master plan envisaged transforming the area into a park, but the idea only took shape at the end of the 1980s. The Cave Park was completed in 2002 and managed by Italia Nostra until 2009. The environmental association was recently “recalled” to the area to open a path in the area previously closed to the public around the Ongari Cerutti quarry. In summer the park is a particularly popular destination for the “firefly” show.
