Pang Renlong: 12-Year Ban for Tennis Match-Fixing

[NTD News, Beijing time, December 21, 2025]The International Tennis Impartial Investigation Organization (ITIA) announced on December 20 that Chinese tennis player Pang Renlong was suspended for 12 years and fined US$110,000 for manipulating or attempting to manipulate the game. This is also the fourth Chinese player to be punished in the past two months.

According to the report, 25-year-old Pang Renlong admitted that from May to September 2024, he manipulated a total of 5 singles matches at the M15, M25 and ATP Challenger Level 50 in which he participated. At the same time, he made 17 corrupt contacts with other professional players, resulting in the manipulation of another 6 matches.

Pang Renlong’s career-high singles ranking is No. 1,316 in the world. According to inquiries, from May to September 2024, Pang Renlong participated in 5 singles matches in Anning, Luzhou, Jinan, Hong Kong and Guiyang, and lost all 5 matches.

The report stated that Pang Renlong has accepted a temporary suspension from November 7, 2024. His suspension will last until November 6, 2036, and he must repay an outstanding fine of US$70,000. A 12-year ban also meant that his tennis career ended prematurely.

The notice also stipulates that during the suspension period, Pang Renlong shall not participate in, coach or attend any tennis events authorized or approved by ITIA members (International Tennis Federation ITF, Men’s Professional Tennis Players Association ATP, Women’s Tennis Players Association WTA, Australian Tennis Association, French Tennis Federation, Wimbledon Tennis Championships and the United States Tennis Association) or any national (regional) association.

This is not the first case of match-fixing in Chinese tennis. Prior to this, in November, three Chinese athletes including Li Wenfu, Zhang Jin, and Lu Pengyu were also punished by ITIA.

Among them, Li Wenfu, whose career-high world singles ranking was only 1,572, was fined US$20,000 (of which US$15,000 was suspended) and suspended for 2 years and 3 months, with the ban period ending on October 30, 2027.

Zhang Jin, whose highest ranking was 1,285, was fined US$15,000 and banned for two years until July 30, 2027.

The 23-year-old Lu Pengyu has a highest world singles ranking of 896. After he was suspended on August 19, 2025, he appealed on October 3 and was rejected on November 10.
