“There was a different plan for the goalkeepers before the season, but it turned out differently during the season. I realized that I can’t just sit on the sidelines, that I also have to play. The team was in November in the pit (four losses in a row) and made a miscalculation. A game for us did not leaveand my performance wasn’t the best either. The coaches said they didn’t really trust me. In the final result, we parted without resentment,” said the 24-year-old player, who made his debut in the world championships last year.
“To Marek [Mitenam] it was a tough situation this season and this was one of his last chances to jump into a team. The fact that he came in my place is a coincidence. I found out about his arrival here only at the very last moment. Now I’m in Riga and I’m waiting for an agent to find me. I can sign a new contract at any moment, and it can happen today, tomorrow or within the next week,” revealed the goalkeeper, who was not asked about the compatriot by the coach and the club management, and he did not know about the agreement until the end.
Vitols participated in only six fights this fall, saving a total of 87.6% of the shots. Mitens, on the other hand, represented the Spišskas Novas Ves unit in the previous season, managing 91.4% of the shots in 49 games.
