Ediz Baksi, former basketball player of Karşıyaka basketball team and president of Karşıyaka Belediyespor Club, who held various positions in the basketball branch, ended his life.
Ediz Baksi, a well-known name in the Izmir sports community, former basketball player and President of Karşıyaka Belediyespor Club, attempted suicide by jumping from the balcony of his house at noon. Baksi, who was taken to Izmir City Hospital after the incident, was reported to have passed away.
Ediz Baksi was among the important players of the Karşıyaka basketball team, which won the championship in the Turkish Basketball League in the 1986-87 season. After his sports career, he also took an active role in the management and business world. Ediz Baksi, who also served as president of the Basketball Men’s Association for a period after Atakan Karakaplan, was among the founding names of businesses such as Ora Lahmacun, Löp Löp Kokoreç and Sabırsız Sandviç, which became brands in Izmir.
Ediz Baksi was elected president of Karşıyaka Belediyespor Club in line with the request of Karşıyaka Mayor B. Yıldız Ünsal.
The death of Ediz Baksı caused great sadness among the İzmir sports world and his fans, especially the Karşıyaka community.
Official authorities’ investigations into the incident are continuing.

On the other hand, Karşıyaka Municipality, which made a public statement regarding the suicide of Ediz Baksi, said “Our condolences” and announced that the opening ceremony of the ‘Genç Yaka’ youth center and cafeteria, which was planned to be held tomorrow, was postponed.
