Football Transfer News: Player Misses Union Brussels Move | Italy & Germany

Seduced by the Brussels project, Marc Giger explains why he chose the Union despite other offers in Europe.

Arriving in the middle of winter, almost discreetly, Marc Giger settled down at Union Saint-Gilloise. The 20-year-old Swiss left Schaffhausen in January 2025, for a transfer estimated at 350,000 euros. A bet for the club and for him. He played in the second division in his country.

Giger has not played much this season and has often had to make do with come-ons. Despite this limited playing time, he has taken part in thirteen league matches. The Swiss winger scored three goals and provided an assist.

In an interview with the newspaper The evening, Giger told how it all started for him. “I was on vacation in Mexico when my agent called me. He told me that the Union wanted to hold a meeting with me by videoconference. The meeting lasted almost an hour. I listened very attentively.” he says.

The Union had the right words

Leaders were honest with him about the work ahead of him. “They showed me the plan they had. They gave me the trajectories of Victor Boniface and Deniz Undav as an example. It was a complicated schedule, with a lot of training. And above all, which required a lot of patience. But I was convinced.”

After this exchange, he had made his choice. “I told my agent straight away that I wanted to go to the Union, even though I was also attracting interest in Italy, Germany and Sweden.”
