Bears Playoff Bound: Seedings & 5-Year Wait End

The NFL’s Chicago Bears lost 38-42 to the San Francisco 49ers, ending their bid to become the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

In a game played on Sunday Night Football in San Francisco on the 28th, the Bears advanced to the opponent’s goal line just before the end of the game, but failed to come back, leaving a disappointment. The game ended when Bears quarterback Caleb Williams’ final pass, which he threw while under pressure from the 49ers defense, ended up incomplete in the end zone.

With this, the Bears suffered their 5th loss of the season (11 wins).

The game on this day was a close contest from the beginning. The Bears took the lead 15 seconds into the game when defensive back TJ Edwards intercepted a pass from San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy and returned it for a touchdown, but the game remained tense from start to finish.

The two teams recorded a total of 7 touchdowns in the first half alone and 11 touchdowns in total, including 4 touchdowns exchanged in the second half.

Bears quarterback Williams had an impressive game on this day, completing 25 of 42 pass attempts, recording 330 passing yards and 2 touchdowns, but unfortunately missed another last-minute comeback.

With this day’s loss, it became impossible for the Bears to get past the Seattle Seahawks (13 wins, 3 losses), the current No. 1 seed in the NFC.

However, the previous day, the Green Bay Packers (9 wins, 6 losses, 1 draw) lost 24-41 to the Baltimore Ravens, confirming their victory in the NFC North Division. The Bears advance to the playoffs for the first time in five years since 2020.

The Bears will play the final regular season game at home against the Detroit Lions on January 4th, and if they win, they will secure the second seed in the NFC.
